July Legislative Update 

WPRA Begins to Develop 2027-28 Legislative Agenda

Currently the WPRA Public Policy Committee is developing the Association’s 2027-28 Legislative Priorities.

WPRA PPC members are discussing a variety of new issues, as well as preparing for advocating for major historical initiatives – like the reauthorization and funding for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, which officially ended on June 30, 2026.

In addition to KNSP reauthorization the members are researching issues like:

  • Authorization for Park Districts to be established in Wisconsin
  • Allowing wine to be sold by local governments at Biergartens and outdoor events
  • Sustainable funding for out-of-school time
  • Hunting & Fishing License Fee increases
  • Allowing eminent domain for recreational trails
  • Permitting swim instructors to start instructing at 15, like lifeguards

Over the next several months, the WPRA PPC will finalize the agenda to use when the new legislative session begins in January 2027.
