Have you ever found yourself avoiding a conversation you know you need to have because you’re worried about how the other person will react, or because you’re personally tied to the situation? In recreation leadership, those moments are constant. Whether it’s with staff, coworkers, patrons, or community partners, uncomfortable conversations can feel emotionally charged and easy to put off.

This session is designed specifically for recreation professionals who work in fast-paced, people-centered environments. Participants will learn how to step into difficult conversations sooner rather than later—before issues escalate—while staying grounded, clear, and compassionate. We’ll focus on practical, in-the-moment tools to reduce defensiveness, communicate with honesty and professionalism, and guide conversations toward productive, solution-focused outcomes for all parties involved. Walk away with confidence in your ability to address issues directly, strengthen relationships, and lead through discomfort with clarity and purpose.
