Summer Intern Shawano County Parks
Job Description Student interns are representatives of the Shawano County Parks Department, their college or university and their community. The Parks Department is committed to providing each intern with the highest on-the-job-training possible, using all Department resources. In turn, each intern is expected to make the most of this opportunity.
Below is a list of obligations each intern must commit to prior to and during an internship:
- Create goals and objectives for your internship.
- Become familiar with the history, philosophy and values of the Department.
- Make a personal and professional commitment to treat the internship as a learning experience that will help you discover a possible career path.
- Ensure internship is a practical application of your academic curriculum.
- Develop interaction and communication skills.
- Students will be exposed to marketing both the county parks/state trails as well as the indoor pavilion.
- Will assist in the management of summer limited term employees as well as full time staff.
- This will be a working position so intern will engage in all the tasks that both staff and management do on a daily basis.
- Intern will help with the budgeting process throughout the summer. This will include both operational and capital budgets.
- Student will attend bi-weekly county committee meetings as well as monthly county board meetings, updating board members with Park Department news.
Qualifications The Shawano County Parks Department provides internships for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in a two or four-year accredited college or university.
Undergraduate Students
- Must be enrolled in upper division undergraduate courses.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a minimum GPA of 2.75 in field of study.
- Must be majoring in Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, Park Planning and Design, Park Management, Therapeutic Recreation, Natural Resources, Urban Forestry, Environmental Studies or related field.
Salary/Salary Range $15/hour, includes living accommodations
