Job Description
The position of Park Facilities/Grounds Generalist performs related duties in the maintenance and improvement of grounds and facilities, including operation of equipment. Provides miscellaneous support services for recreation programs, activities and events. This position performs customer service, semi-skilled and manual work.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs turf maintenance functions, including general mowing and trimming, weeding, watering, aeration, top dressing, leaf raking and removal, seeding, sodding, and general clean-up for parks, roadsides, parkways, and boulevards. 
  • Performs general buildings and grounds care, including maintenance, cleaning, refuse collection, painting, snow removal, and salting on roads, lots and paths. 
  • Performs preventative maintenance of park vehicles and equipment. 
  • Performs maintenance, and preparation on various athletic and recreation facilities, including ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, ice rinks, trails. 
  • Provides miscellaneous and park maintenance function support services for recreation programs, special events, picnics as assigned. 
  • Operates various pieces of motorized equipment, trucks, and tools related to assigned duties. 
  • Subject to call for emergency work and extra overtime hours may be required during the week, weekends, and holidays.
  • Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations with other City departments, staff and the community in general.
  • Responds or refers complaints concerning the operation and maintenance of City parks to the Parks and Forestry Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma. 
  • At least 2 years’ experience in parks or landscape maintenance, grounds keeping, or closely related work. 
  • Pesticide applicator certification for the State of Wisconsin preferred. 
  • Knowledge and ability to operate motorized equipment, trucks and tools, including chainsaws, mowers, hand tools and power tools. 
  • Knowledge of the safe applications of fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.
  • Ability to perform manual labor (bend, stoop, handle equipment, lift minimum of 100 pounds); withstand a variety of temperatures, weather and work conditions; and possess short/long distance vision. 
  • Ability to work overnight, weekends and holidays, including emergency calls with a two hour minimum.

Salary/Salary Range
Pay Range 115 is $23.93 - $27.38 (Appointments are usually made at the beginning of the range).
