Job Description The Recreation Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Before and After School Kids Club Program by fostering a safe, engaging, and structured environment for children. This position involves leading recreational activities, assisting with homework, and providing general supervision during program hours. The role requires creativity, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills to positively influence the daily experiences of participating children. It is a part-time, seasonal position well-suited for individuals who enjoy working with youth in a dynamic and supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise children PreK - 5th Grade during before and after school care, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior.
- Lead and facilitate a variety of activities including games, arts and crafts, sports, and group exercises.
- Provide homework help in a supportive and encouraging manner.
- Serve snacks to children and ensure proper snack handling and cleanliness.
- Take daily attendance and ensure all children are accounted for.
- Foster a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment where children feel comfortable and engaged.
- Promote positive behavior and assist in resolving conflicts in a calm and professional manner.
- Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and good sportsmanship during activities.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up activities and materials.
- Monitor and maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents and program staff regarding any issues or concerns.
- Assist with other duties as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Previous experience working with children in a recreational, educational, or childcare setting is preferred but not required.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage with children in a positive, energetic, and professional manner.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Responsible, patient, and enthusiastic about creating a positive environment for children.
- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain certification).
- NCI Training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention TrainingMust pass background check.
Salary/Salary Range $15.00 - $19.00 based on experience
