Parks and Forestry Superintendent City of Brookfield
Job Description
The Parks and Forestry Superintendent is responsible for the management of year-round program of maintenance, special services, and improvements for the City's park system, Civic Center grounds and urban forest, and the coordination and management of selected park programs, events, and activities as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Manages and directs the activities of the Parks and Forestry Division personnel.
- Plans, organizes, evaluates and analyzes overall division operations to meet department established goals based on the needs of the community within budget guidelines.
- Determines annual comprehensive maintenance schedule for all park facilities, buildings and equipment.
- Develops, implements, evaluates, and coordinates the City's Urban Forestry Program.
- Recruits, selects, trains, supervises and evaluates division staff and volunteers necessary to conduct operations in accordance with established procedures.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, assigns, and monitors work of division staff necessary to perform required job functions.
- Establishes safety standards and conducts educational training programs.
- Implements annual salary schedule and other job status changes.
- Maintains systematic, complete, and accurate records of division activities, services, and personnel.
- Supervises, inspects, and monitors construction and development projects related to the park system or department controlled facilitates performed by outside contractors.
- Assists in the development and administration of the departmental budget.
- Prepares, administers, and controls the annual budget for the division.
- Develops cost accounting procedures and reports for programs and operations.
- Plans for and procures materials, equipment, and supplies for effective and efficient operations.
- Promotes and maintains positive Departmental public relations and image with customers, which include other City departments and staff, Elmbrook School District, community groups and organizations, and the community in general.
- Serves as a liaison between various boards, the Department, Forestation Committee, and Parks and Recreation Commission, advising groups on matters of concern and interest, while receiving their guidance and input.
- Responds to public inquiries with regards to division operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Parks Management, Forestry, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture or related field.
- Five (5) years experience in parks, public work facilities, and grounds maintenance, preferably in the public sector.
- Three (3) years managerial or supervisory experience.
- Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide License at time of appointment and maintain certification throughout the duration of employment.
- ISA Arborist Certification at time of appointment and maintain throughout the duration of employment.
- Knowledge and experience in parks, buildings and grounds maintenance operations, equipment/facilities and procedures.
- Knowledge and experience in the methods, equipment, and materials used in horticulture, landscape and grounds maintenance, and Arboriculture.
- A valid Wisconsin driver’s license or otherwise meet the transportation needs of the position.
- Equivalent combinations of training and experience will be considered.
Salary/Salary Range Salary Grade 8- $105,310.40 - $136,905.60 annually ($50.63-$65.82) with excellent benefits.
