Lifeguard - Daytime Oak Creek Franklin Joint School District
Job Description
Ensures the safety of community patrons and students at the Oak Creek High School pool (in water and on pool deck) by practicing preventative lifeguarding and responding to emergencies. Hours vary between 7:30am-2:45pm Monday-Friday supporting school day and summer community lessons. Potential for weekend daytime hours based on availability up to 30 hours/week. This part-time position has potential to become full-time for the 2027-28 school year. Reports to Oak Creek Community Education & Recreation - Aquatics, Sports & Wellness Coordinator
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains first aid supplies for personnel and pool deck needs
- Conducts regular safety checks of equipment and supplies
- Monitors activity of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency according to American Red Cross and Facility Standards
- Provides emergency care and treatment of patrons until the arrival of emergency medical services
- Presents professional appearance and attitude maintaining high standard of customer service
- Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
- Prepares and maintains appropriate activity and safety reports
- Inform pool patrons of activities and programming opportunities
- Participate in scheduled on site staff meetings
- Help facilitate staff training and regularly scheduled jump practice
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School graduate (or equivalent) 18 years or older Must possess valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- Must possess valid American Red Cross CPR/AED Certification
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Skilled in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation administered by the department
- Knowledge and skilled in CPR and emergency medical procedures
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
- Knowledge of basic pool protocols
- Possess Aquatic Facility Operator license, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Must be in good physical condition able to swim, run, jump, crouch, or kneel
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Salary/Salary Range $23-25/hour
