Job Description 

The City of Fort Atkinson is seeking a dynamic, hands-on Facilities Manager to lead the maintenance, safety, and improvement of municipal buildings and facilities. As a key member of the City’s Management Team, you’ll play an essential role in shaping how our facilities operate, from managing custodial contracts and coordinating renovations to overseeing the municipal airport and planning long-term capital improvements. This full-time, salaried position combines leadership, technical oversight, and direct management across a wide range of administrative, maintenance and project responsibilities. Working under the direction of the Director of Neighborhood and Building Services, the Facilities Manager will guide renovation planning, develop bid solicitations, evaluate proposals, and ensure building security, safety and compliance.

A successful candidate will bring vocational or technical training in construction or project management, business administration, or a related field, along with at least four years of supervisory or project management experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or maintenance. Strong knowledge of construction contracts, maintenance agreements, project management, and vendor management is essential to ensure effective oversight and compliance across all City facilities. The City, has 38 rooftops, 11 with heating and air conditioning systems, with a total value of $120 million. Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/Technical School training in construction management, project management, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience or other formal training in facilities management.
  • At least four years of experience in supervision or project management in the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or maintenance fields.
  • Knowledge of automated building mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate technical data, construction documentation, and maintenance requirements.
  • Fundamental knowledge of construction contracts, maintenance agreements, and vendor management to ensure proper oversight of building operations and compliance with contract terms.
  • Experience in supervising or coordinating teams or contractors, and strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in facilities management software, security systems, resource tracking systems, and basic office software, including personal computer, telephone, and printer/copier.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and safety protocols for building maintenance and operations.
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.

Salary/Salary Range 
The City of Fort Atkinson offers a competitive salary and benefits package with a starting annual salary range of $73,440 to $91,800. Starting employees receive 80 hours of vacation (prorated from start date), 10 holidays and 2 personal days. The City is a part of the Wisconsin Retirement System and also offers health, life, dental and vision insurance.
