Community Activity Supervisor City of Port Washington
Job Description
The Community Activity Supervisor is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision and enhancement of recreation programs and services for the Parks & Recreation Department including aquatics and the Senior Center. This position provides leadership to seasonal staff, ensures safe and well-maintained facilities, and delivers high-quality activities citywide for all ages in all seasons.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Parks & Recreation
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate year-round recreational programs, special events, and community activities.
- Oversee athletic leagues, youth and adult programs.
- Develop marketing materials and promote programs through various communication channels.
- Assist within the parks/forestry department, as needed.
Aquatics
- Manage seasonal pool operations, including scheduling, staffing, and daily operations.
- Ensure compliance with all local and state health and safety regulations.
- Oversees swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, lifeguard training, and special pool events.
- Monitor water quality, safety protocols, and risk management practices.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards, swim instructors, and pool staff.
- Maintain inventory and coordinate equipment and supply needs.
Senior Center
- Provides customer service for the Senior Center, including greeting members, answering phones, registering members for programs, and responding to general inquiries.
- Maintains accurate records and databases, processes program registrations and payments, and assists with tracking participant data.
- Coordinates facility scheduling, program logistics, ensuring calendars, promotional materials, and communications are up to date.
- Prepares correspondence, ordering supplies, processing invoices, and assisting with special events and community outreach activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Parks & Recreation, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in parks, recreation, or aquatics management.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Certifications (or ability to obtain):
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of parks and aquatics operations and safety standards.
- Strong leadership and staff supervision skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and seasonal workforce.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Budget management and administrative skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays during peak seasons.
Salary/Salary Range 59,000 - 69,000
